My name is Chris and I started kitesurfing in 2000. As you may have heard, the Atlantic Ocean has lost millions of gallons of water. That's because I drank it during training back then. From 2006 until 2008 I was part of PKRA (Professional Kiteboard Riders Association) and took part in the World Championship. I know all the old school kiters from base on and to be honest: This guys are my heros.

Please forgive me if I mention a few names here, because I cannot accept that they are forgotten: Flash Austin, Martin Vari, Sky Solbach, Alvaro Onieva, Marc Shinn.

But I also wouldn't want to miss German kite surfers who have influenced me with their tough, razor-sharp style: Jost Backhaus and Bastian Langer.
Names that have long been forgotten in a world of entertainment.

Let us come back to the line: I learned to kite with a 2 line kite, no safety, a large directional board. When I think back today and compare what great and good material there is today, that is a huge step forward.

But this development also has a serious disadvantage. Errors creep in and these are compensated for by the good material. The kite student no longer learns it properly, but instead reaches his limit in extreme situations and the risk of injury increases.

An example: The kite student has not been teached how to "slow down" the kite over the board edge because he only uses the kite depower in the poop position. The student is de facto unable to impact power into his board because the basic position is incorrect.

The kiteboard is not driven over the edge, as it would be correct, but using the oversized fins they slow down the board anyway.

In Kitesurfing magazines then they say: The board rides like it's on rails, which is of course nonsense, because I want to kite and not ride a train. A board that rides like it's on rails contradicts the nature of kiting.

This is just one argument out of dozends. The real kite philosophy contradicts with kite schools, where quantity is located above quality.

But they do exist: Native kiters. Old school kiters. Those who know how to do it properly. The pros.

Those who know where to buy. Those who know how to trim, how to fix, how to handle the hole range, all aspects of kitesurfing. Those who know, what kitesurfing really is and penetrate the matter.
